| How to write an Opinion Editorial Think of an op-ed as a longer and better-researched letter to the editor. Most newspapers have a 600800 word limit. Read the steps for writing a Letter to the Editor and add the following:
1. Get together with a friend or two and decide who will write the first draft. Everyone has their talent: some like to start the words, others like to revise and others like to edit. Two to three sets of hands and eyes are recommended for an effective op-ed.
2. Gather the facts; visit the Take Action, Just the Facts pages, your local library and contact MAU Central at beheard@mothersactingup.org for more information.
3. Contact the editor to let them know your editorial is on the way. You may even want to set up a meeting to deliver your masterpiece in person. Put a face to your name and start a wonderful relationship.
4. Remember, be persistent & amplify!
