Mothers Acting Up (MAU) inspires, educates and engages mothers a gigantic global force to be reckoned with to prioritize children in our corporate and public policies.
The mother agenda, currently has three specific campaigns:
Protect Our Global Family, Champion the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
Recognizing the interconnectedness of all children’s lives politically, environmentally, economically and culturally we can ensure a secure future for all of the world’s children if all countries meet their commitment to fund the MDGS in order to half extreme poverty by 2015. Leaders from all 22-donor nations (meeting the technical standard of “high-income” nations), agreed to scale-up their commitment to 0.44% of their GNP by 2006 and 0.7% of their GNP by 2015. Although the UK was contributing 0.48% of our GNP in 2006 the U.S. contributed only 0.17% of their GDP, a decrease from 2005 (Source: OECD).
MAU's all over the world are educating their communities about the eight goals of the MDG's, lobbying their local and national leaders to fund them and identifying ways that they can personally support the goals. The quick and easy actions posted on this website highlight actions UK MAU's can take on at least one of these goals every month.
For Children’s Sake Preserve our planet
We need our illustrious leaders, to become vocal advocates for the natural world our children will inherit. To ensure a secure future for all of the world’s children we need to stop global warming by enacting mandatory limits on greenhouse-gas emissions, increase fuel efficiency standards and genuinely invest in alternative and renewable energy. We do NOT consider nuclear energy a viable option. We need your leadership in ensuring responsible resource consumption, sustainably-produced food, clean drinking water, and sharing the planet with other species.
The True Cost of War Measure the impact of war on children
As our leaders, we need you to measure the long-term impacts of war, in addition to the immediate loss of life and tremendous financial cost. This includes: exposing the impact of cluster bombs, depleted uranium, the U.S. sale of arms worldwide, generational fear & hatred, and U.S. policies to not count civilian deaths. It is time to bring attention to the True Cost of War; bring our troops home from civil wars that we will not win and pursue other diplomatic means to resolve conflict. It’s time to shift money from building more advanced weaponry (we already outpace others by miles) to funding preventative measures to decrease future terrorism by ensuring the health, education and safety of future generations.
MAU mobilizes mothers* advocacy on behalf of the world's children in the following ways:
Collective Actions
Girlcotts
